Past Trials
Multiply Trials
As part of the Multiply programme, Etio worked with adult learning providers across England to test new and creative ways of helping adults build confidence with maths. Each trial looked at how different approaches could make maths more engaging, relevant, and useful in everyday life.
Preparation for Maths GCSE
This research explored how a preparation course can help adults feel ready to take and pass their GCSE Maths. It looked at how extra support, revision techniques, and tailored teaching can make a real difference to learner success.
An Adapted Mastery Approach and Contextualised Curriculum for Functional Skills Qualification Level 1
This trial tested two ways of teaching Functional Skills Maths; an Adapted Mastery Approach and a Contextualised Curriculum. Both focused on helping learners make real-world connections with maths and build a stronger understanding of key ideas. The research aims to show that these practical, hands-on approaches can boost learners’ confidence and help them feel more comfortable using maths in everyday life.
Embedding Maths in Health and Social Care (Level 2)
This project worked with tutors to weave maths learning directly into Health and Social Care courses. The aim was to show how maths skills are part of everyday life - from managing schedules to understanding bills - and to help learners see the value in understanding maths.
Family Numeracy Programme
This programme brought parents, carers, and children together to explore maths through fun, family-friendly activities. We wanted to find out how learning together at home can boost adults’ confidence (and even encourage them to continue their studies), support children’s learning, and make maths feel more approachable for everyone.
